Manual Description
PINION GEAR HEIGHT AND PINION BEARING, the actual shapes of Kent-Moore tools may differ from those of special service tools illustrated here, removing and installing propeller shaft lock nut, removing and installing drive pinion rear inner.
Center bearing mounting (insulator) cracks, damage deterioration, excessive center bearing axial end play, noise, Vibration Harshness (NVH) Troubleshooting, use the chart below to help you find the cause of the symptom.
If vibration is present at high speed, inspect propeller shaft runout, final drive companion flange with hands, if runout exceeds specifications, disconnect propeller shaft, final drive companion flange; then rotate companion flange.
Inspect propeller shaft tube surface dents cracks, if damaged, replace propeller shaft assembly, if center bearing is noisy or damaged, replace center bearing, put match marks on flanges and separate propeller shaft.
Draw out propeller shaft from transmission plug up rear, end of transmission rear extension housing, if the play exceeds specifications, replace propeller shaft, put match marks on flanges, and separate 2nd tube 1st.
Put match marks on flange shaft, remove center bearing with Tool press, put match marks on shaft flange yoke, remove pushed out journal bearing by lightly tapping yoke.
With a hammer, taking care not to damage journal yoke, put marks on disassembled parts so that they can be reinstalled in their original positions which they were, when installing center bearing, position the F” mark on center bearing toward front vehicle, apply a coat of multi-purpose lithium grease containing.
Molybdenum disulfide to the end face of the center bearing and both sides washer, align match marks when assembling tubes, when assembling, be careful that needle bearing does not fall, select snap ring that will provide specified play in axial direction of journal, install them.
Select snap rings with a difference in thickness both sides, adjust thrust clearance between bearing and snap ring zero, check to see that journal moves smoothly check axial, solid type (disassembly type — without Birfield joint —).
Shaft length (Spider spider) mm (in), service Data Specifications (SDS) (Cont'd), *: Always check with the Parts Department for latest parts information, measuring pinion bearing preload total preload.
(To use, make new hole, removing and installing differential side bearing, installing pinion rear bearing outer race, installing pinion front bearing outer race.
Adjusting bearing pre-load gear height, refer to NVH TROUBLESHOOTING CHART”, PD-4, apply multi-purpose grease to cavity at sealing lips oil seal, press front oil seal into carrier.
Install companion flange drive pinion nut, remove rear cover rear cover gasket, install new rear cover gasket rear cover, fill final drive with recommended gear oil.
¼ Remove front final drive mounting bolts, be careful not to damage spline, sleeve yoke front oil seal, before disassembling final drive, perform following inspection.
