Among the world’s oldest automobile manufacturers, French automaker Peugeot put its first car on the road in 1889, a three-wheeled, steam-powered model. The company went on to establish a reputation as a pioneer automaker.

In 1974, Peugeot expanded by buying a 30% share of Citroën, and went on to take it over completely in 1975. Peugeot entered the United States in 1958, and enjoyed success for a couple of decades. Though its 33-year presence in the United States ended in 1991, the company plans to reenter the country in 2023.

Peugeot boasts manufacturing facilities in several European countries in addition to joint ventures in Europe, Asia and Africa. Peugeot has a huge presence in China, thanks to the joint venture, Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën, that has built four manufacturing facilities with a capacity of 750,000 vehicles. Peugeot has a presence in many segments, with offerings such as Boxer and Partner, both light commercial vehicles; Dongfeng Rich, a compact truck; 5008, a crossover SUV; and 508, a large family car.
